Jim's posts

Second Life was quite an experience. The places I visited there I could have never visited in reality. The use of the three dimensional as a tool to submerge the user in a virtual reality has many advantages and some downfalls. The visit to the Sistine Chapel was especially enjoyable. I also immediately like the ability to fly. It gives you the opportunity to see things from a bird’s eye view.
I visited Oregon Universities Island. It was comprised of several separate areas designed by students of the college. This gave the students the opportunity to create something in a group online. What a cool world we live in where we can build a world without lifting a shovel or hammer.
I ran into some bad areas as well. I searched to find a recreation of Germany. I expected maybe some historical or geographical Island but I got something else. This world has a freaky underground that is a reflection of our society. Just like in reality you have to watch where you go. So be careful because an Island could be named Germany but in second life that might not translate to a country.
Second life is a great way for people to try things and share ideas in a virtual platform. It is the future of the internet learning and shopping, if not everything.

Exploring Art and Culture with Jam jam Bill

culture?...ehh, try counter
Jam Jam Bill at the Rockers lounge...turns out im the olny person that rocks...quite boring

Graphics and Design make second life. Coming from simple jpg billboards to complex avatar animations the cutting edge of computer design is the ground you walk on in second life. Culture is the foundation it is built on. With out culture art would have a less definitive meaning. But the most expressive cultures I have found are the counter cultures. I went to a public house with a Rockabilly theme. A real bopper club it was. Every one had 50’s style hair. The stage had a simple 3 piece trap set fallowed with a upright bass and dance floor. The Bar was handing out drinks and smokes. I felt content spending my time there rather than the vampire scene.

In fact I didn’t like any place in second life where any one “role plays” I have been exposed to the underground geek culture. It’s like walking into a star wars convention with a star trek badge.

lord of the rings is quite popular in Second Life...people like to act along and what not...not my thing.

this is a Snapshot of my avatar hanging out on a grave yard. thanks vampire clan for making such a meek and depressing place to pretend in.

it turns out that i'm the olny person that thinks zombies are cool. thats right. i'd rather be hte olny zombie in Second life than be in one of those dorky vampire cliqs.

Learning opps!

this is an image of Jam Jam Bill standing on a table of Prinston's Secondlife campus. what i nice oppertunity to act rude!

Second life has plenty of learning opportunities. Animation and design are two obvious tools too learn from, but I’m forgetting about the sights and cultures you can learn from one another is the infantine learning opportunity.
Check this out. some one designed our solar system in secondlife NYC. you can watch an animation of the orbit of the planets around our sun.

Jam Jam Bill went sight seeing

Just like in real life when you walk outside in a public area you are expected to be curious and polite. I’ve walked the streets of New York City before and I thought it would be a good place to start my second life experience. But being the jerk I can be I decided to say something like “what are you lookin’ at?” to an un-expecting user. And just like in real life Second life has cops or as some users call them “greaver control” with out a moments notice I was banned from second life’s New York city. If I said that to a real New Yorker I would probity just get a black eye.

this is the olny photo i got in New york before i got kicked out. it was the WTC plac.

aftar wards i went to Las Vegas and checked out there wedding chappel. its nicer and cheeper to get hiched in Second life than it is in real life...i'm sure.
